Unicaf University in Malawi is proud to announce the successful completion of an educational trip to Kasungu National Park on 21st March 2025. Organised by the University’s Academic Department, this immersive experience provided students with an invaluable opportunity to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application in the fields of wildlife management, tourism operations, customer service and environmental conservation.
A group of 26 enthusiastic students participated in the trip, eager to deepen their understanding of real-world conservation efforts and industry best practices. The day was filled with engaging and interactive activities designed to enrich their academic knowledge and expose them to the dynamic tourism and conservation sectors.
The visit began with a warm welcome from the park’s expert tour guide, who provided an insightful briefing on the rich history of Kasungu National Park, its vital role in Malawi’s conservation efforts, and an overview of the diverse flora and fauna within the park. Students then had the unique opportunity to explore the park, where they observed iconic wildlife, including elephants and warthogs, and studied various plant species that contribute to the park’s thriving ecosystem.
A key highlight of the trip was the interactive Q&A session, where students engaged with professionals in the fields of park management, biodiversity conservation and tourism operations. This exchange of knowledge allowed students to gain a deeper appreciation of conservation challenges and innovative strategies employed to preserve Malawi’s natural heritage.
Throughout the experience, students developed valuable insights into customer service within the tourism industry, learning firsthand how park guides create memorable experiences for visitors while ensuring the protection of natural resources. Additionally, exposure to park operations and facility management enhanced their understanding of career prospects in wildlife conservation, hospitality and tourism.
The Kasungu National Park trip proved to be an inspiring and informative journey, reinforcing Unicaf University’s commitment to providing students with holistic learning experiences that prepare them for successful careers. By combining classroom knowledge with practical exposure, students gained not only theoretical insights but also hands-on understanding that will shape their future professional paths.
