Unicaf University signs MoU with the Malawi Defence Force

Malawi Defence Force officers now have access to high-quality tertiary education at a fraction of the cost thanks to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Unicaf University in Malawi and the Malawi Defence Force (MDF).

Chief of Staff at the Malawi Defence Force, Major General George Jaffu and Unicaf University Vice-Chancellor, Dr Robert Ridley signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions at the Malawi Defence Force Headquarters in Lilongwe.

As per the agreement, Unicaf University will offer programmes at degree level to all MDF employees with guaranteed scholarships.

Dr Ridley was “delighted with the agreement as it will benefit both parties,’ he said. He also pointed out that, “we will be undertaking research and work with MDF to identify the best research projects that would benefit security and defence in the country.”

The Director of Human Resources at the MDF, Brigadier General Sydney Linyama said programmes like Human Resource Management and Security Studies, which Unicaf University is offering, will help the staff with personal as well as professional development. “The MoU will facilitate affordable, convenient and easily accessible programmes for our officers. By offering these programmes, our officers will increase further opportunities in their careers,” he said.
