Unicaf University Malawi wishes to thank all participants in the first essay competition on the topic: “How can higher education of international quality fight youth unemployment in Malawi?”. The entries submitted prove that young Malawians acknowledge youth unemployment rates can be reduced by making higher education accessible and affordable for all, which is the actual mission of Unicaf University.

The competition awards ceremony was held on October 31st at Unicaf University’s state-of-the-art campus in Lilongwe, in the presence of representatives of the Malawi media. The Vice Chancellor of Unicaf University Malawi Professor Joseph Kuthemba Mwale congratulated the winners and handed them their scholarship certificates and free tablets. In his brief speech, Professor Kuthemba Mwale said the competition is part of the institution’s corporate social responsibility programme, aiming to assist students who cannot join a university because financial difficulties prevent them from paying the required tuition fees.

Ian Mchuchu, the 21 year old second winner from Dedza district has a degree in Computer Science and he received a 90% scholarship to pursue a Master’s degree with Unicaf University.
