Starting whistle kicks-off Unicaf University sponsored Netball Tournament

Further to our recent news with regards to the Unicaf University sponsorship deal with the Lilongwe Urban Netball Committee, we are happy to report that the starting whistle has blown on the scheduled Netball Tournament. 

With a total of 18 local teams participating over the course of one month, the nationally recognised tournament at Civo Stadium attracted approximately 2,000 excited spectators who came to watch and support their favourite teams. And what formidable teams! Present were Lilongwe’s top-ranked netball teams, Blue Eagles, Civo Nets, Lioness, and Young Eagles. 

In her opening speech, the Chairperson of the Lilongwe Urban Netball Committee, Zikubwelera Washon, expressed her excitement at the tournament’s inauguration. The opening match between arch-rivals, Civo Nets and Blue Eagles, resulted in a thrilling, edge-of-your-seat 33 to 22 win for Civo Nets. 

Unicaf University is a proud sponsor of the Lilongwe Urban Netball Tournament. Netball, as the second most popular sport in Malawi (after football), has amassed a huge loyal fan base. Unicaf University Representative, Dr Effieness Mpakati Gama recently confirmed that Unicaf University will be sponsoring further sporting events in the future.
